Vietnamese products sell well on international e-commerce platforms
Positive signs of growth for cross-border e-commerce could enhance Vietnamese brand value.
Frozen and fresh passion fruit and durian are two of many Vietnamese farm produce selling well on Alibaba.com. A report showed that farm produce, food and drinks are among the top 10 best sellers on the e-commerce platform.
According to Roger Lou, Vietnam Country Director of Alibaba.com, more than 70 percent of suppliers in Vietnam are rated with two or more stars. Vietnam’s best-known products include food and beverage, farm produce, beauty and personal care services, and wooden furniture. There are more than 800,000 products listed on Alibaba and 70,000 messages of interest from all over the world.
Amazon Global Selling Vietnam has announced that nearly 10 million Vietnamese products were sold on the platform in 2022, an increase of 35 percent over the year before. The number of partners with revenue exceeding $500,000 increased by 60 percent.
The made-in-Vietnam best sellers on Amazon included kitchenware, textiles and garments, health care products and family utilities. AnEco, Lafooco, Sunhouse and HMG are among the most successful sellers on Amazon.
AliResearch’s 2023 Annual Digital B2B Outlook Report showed that cross-border e-commerce is no longer a playing field only reserved for big brands. This is an effective sales distribution channel for small enterprises which lack experience or knowledge about exports, and for enterprises which cannot pay for travel and attendance at traditional trade fairs.
An Amazon Global Selling report showed the way Vietnam’s enterprises have overcome difficulties over the last 12 months, their confidence and bravery in trying the new business model, and growth from online sales and exports.
Duong Khanh Toan from Me Trang Coffee JSC said traditional marketing is costly. Therefore, his company plans to make higher investments to develop cross-border e-commerce which will allow it to popularize products at reasonable costs.
Bui The Anh, CEO of 5S Hair, said that potential for expanding markets through e-commerce are great.
Roger Lou said that Vietnam is one of the most strategic markets for Alibaba. Alibaba will expand its investments in Vietnam and set up a local ecosystem, which comprises domestic partners, service providers and custom developers, and market operators so to unceasingly improve organizational capacity of local teams.
Amazon Global Selling Vietnam’s managing director Gijae Seong said the platform has been a fellow-traveler of thousands of Vietnamese enterprises over the last three years in their path to export products to the world.
