Vietnam to announce national online meeting platforms in June

The Ministry of Information and Communications has approved a plan on promoting the development and use of next-generation national online meeting platforms in Vietnam.

After assessing online meeting platforms developed by key technology firms in accordance with set criteria, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) plans to announce the platforms for state agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals that can satisfy the requirements.

MIC has approved a plan on promoting the development and use of next-generation national online meeting platforms for state agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals.

The plan aims to develop national platforms for online meetings that have excellent technology, features and experiences; and provide online meeting services for organizations and individuals.

As one of 35 national digital platforms prioritized to develop, the digital platforms for online meetings will be deployed on technical infrastructure of state agencies and key technology firms nationwide.

National online meeting platforms for state agencies must meet basic and advanced technical requirements in terms of features, functions and performance in accordance with MIC’s technical criteria in Decision 157 dated January 28, 2022.

At the same time, they must ensure requirements on information security according to the levels of technical infrastructure, information storage and exploitation, and user data according to the State’s regulations to avoid the risk of information loss and illegal exploitation.

They also need to help with integration with other digital platforms; and support connection methods in online meetings to take advantage of available terminals to optimize costs and ensure ease of use.

As for national online meeting platforms for organizations, businesses and individuals, the platforms must meet technical requirements for features, functions, performance and information security in accordance with the set of technical criteria and requirements in MIC Decision 157 dated January 28, 2022.

The platforms will be deployed on data center technical infrastructure and cloud computing of key technology firms.

MobiFone, Viettel and NetNam have contacted the Central Post and Telecommunications Department to discuss the plans on making products in accordance with the criteria.

Vu The Binh, CEO of NetNam and Deputy Chair and Secretary General of the Vietnam Internet Association (VIA), said the technical criteria and standards will help organizations and individuals choose reasonable platforms and solutions for themselves, and help suppliers in Vietnam know what they need to solve to satisfy clients’ requirements.

It’s expected that in April, key technology firms will perfect their platforms and prepare them for use. A team of experts will be set up in May which will assess the platforms before the announcement on national online meeting platforms slated for June.
