Vietnam: Hanoi launches new telephone switchboard to upgrade tourism services
The Hanoitimes – The switchboard, which operates 24/7, aims to provide information on Hanoi’s tourism for visitors.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism on October 24 signed a cooperative agreement with the Vietnam Post and Telecoms Group (VNPT) on promoting Hanoi’s tourism by launching new telephone switchboard 1800556896 to receive inquiries on the city’s tourism.
Accordingly, the switchboard which operates 24/24 hours and 7/7 days, aims to provide information on Hanoi’s tourism for visitors. It also handles feedback on travel agencies and tourism activities to improve the quality of the services, ensuring tourists’ safety and rights.
Since 2013, the hotline of the city’s tourism sector has handled inquiries and provided information for more than 20,000 domestic and foreign visitors. The hotline also helped to prevent scams and regain stolen property for tourists, maintaining the capital’s image as a friendly city.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Duc Hai said that the switchboard is necessary towards sustainable tourism development of Hanoi.
The number of visitors to Hanoi in the first nine months of 2018 was estimated at 20 million, including 4.45 million foreigners, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
In September alone, over two million visitors arrived in Hanoi, representing an on-year jump of 8.1%. Most of the foreign holidaymakers to the city come from Asia countries, particularly South Korea and Japan, as well as those in Europe such as the UK, France, Germany and Norway, among others.
On this occasion, the Hanoi Department of Tourism also launched guidelines on civilized behavior in tourism in Vietnam’s capital city. With the new standards, Hanoi tourism authorities hope to raise awareness of civilized behavior and encourage tour guides to be more responsible.
