Trade between Brunei, Malaysia up 70.4 per cent

The bilateral trade between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia increased by 70.4 per cent to MYR8.03 billion (USD1.93 billion) in 2021 from MYR4.71 billion (USD1.12 billion) in 2020. The total exports from Malaysia to the Sultanate increased by 108.1 per cent to MYR5.78 billion (USD1.39 billion) in 2021, from MYR2.78 billion (USD0.66 billion) the previous year.

This was revealed by Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah during his visit to Goldmyne Group at The Walk, Beribi.

Goldmyne Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato Seri Lau Kung Ching welcomed the envoy as well as officials from the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam – Minister Counsellor Khairul Azam bin Bani and Defence Advisor Malaysia Colonel Kamarudzaman bin Mohd Thani.

Dato’ Raja Reza said, “The Malaysian business community in the Sultanate continues to provide employment opportunities for Bruneians. In Goldmyne Group, around 65 per cent of the workforce are locals and the company plays a vital role in contributing to Brunei’s economy.”

The high comissioner also revealed that there are around 25,000 Malaysians residing in the Sultanate.

“I am happy to see Malaysians residing in Brunei doing well. I am also proud to see the Malaysia business community contributing to the Sultanate’s economy and proving employment opportunities,” said the high commissioner.

The high commissioner toured several companies under Goldmyne Group – Kai Wang Sdn Bhd, Good Home, Babakimpo, The Black Whale, Speed Queen Marketing Services and The Golden Village Café.
