Thailand: IT jobs offer best salaries for fresh grads

Programmers, software developers and Japanese interpreters are the top paying jobs for fresh graduates this year, with starting salaries ranging between 35,000-40,000 baht a month, according to human resource management company Adecco Group Thailand.

The company recently released its 2020 Salary Guide, which contains a comprehensive overview of salary statistics for over 800 positions that it based on surveys it carried out on more than 3,000 companies.

The survey found the IT sector offers the highest pay for new graduates. According to the guide, the minimum starting salary is 12,000 baht a month — a slight increase from 9,000 baht four years ago.

Meanwhile, the survey found the maximum starting salary for new graduates in Thailand is 40,000 baht.

Computer programmers and software developers, the survey said, can expect to earn around that much as companies look to establish their online presence and digitise their businesses.

The ability to communicate in English, the survey found, will also boost to their chances of earning the maximum starting salary.

It also found the majority of new graduates can expect to earn between 18,000-25,000 baht a month when they start their career.

Meanwhile, careers in sales, or as engineers, project coordinators, personal assistants and Japanese interpreters also offer attractive salaries, with maximum salaries of around 35,000 baht.

“The salary level of each position in each field reflects demand and supply of each job position, while also revealing the needs of the job market as well as the spending power of organisations,” said Tidarat Kanchanawat, country director of the Adecco Group Thailand.

Ms Tidarat said companies are choosing to hire more freelancers to cut fixed costs. They are also seeking employees with multiple skills — not only to gain the most from them, but also to combat disruptions in the business world.
