Thailand: Fresh bid to lower the cost of living
The Commerce Ministry on Wednesday launched a fresh month-long discount campaign running until the end of July to help reduce the cost of living for people nationwide who buy products and services online.
Presiding over the launch of the latest campaign, Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said the campaign will offer a steep discount of up to 85% for the purchase of over 12,600 product items which cover food and beverage, frozen ready meals, seasoning sauces, daily use products, body cleansing products, washing products, electrical appliances, cosmetics, stationery and office equipment, electronic appliances and other items such as clothes and kitchen utensils.
Mr Jurin said the campaign offers discounts in six categories: products sold through digital platforms; delivery services; fast foods; internet services; electronic educational media or electric learning devices; and products of department stores, supermarkets and convenience stores.
Mr Jurin said the scheme is expected to help reduce the cost of living for people who buy goods and services online to the value of at least 200 million baht while stimulating consumer spending to the value of more than 500 million baht.
The Commerce Ministry has held 12 discount campaigns in total since last year to help relieve people’s financial burden amid the pandemic.
Digital platforms and delivery service providers that are participating in the latest scheme include Lazada, Shopee, Ohlala, JatujakMall, Kerry, Grab, Lalamove, DHL, while internet service providers taking part include True Corporation, Advanced Info Service (AIS), Total Access Communications (dtac) and National Telecom (NT).
Sixteen department stores, supermarkets and convenience stores have joined the campaign, including Makro, The Mall, Central, Big C, Tops, CP Freshmart, Lotus, Foodland, MaxValu, B2S, Supersports, OfficeMate, Power Buy, 7-Eleven, Boots and Watsons.
