Thai-Cambodian border trade up in January

SA KAEO – Border trade between Thailand and Cambodia through the eastern province rose by 12.71% month-on-month in January, with a 3.34% decline in Thai exports to the neighbouring country and an 89.48% increase in imports.
The value of trade through the Aranyaprathet checkpoint amounted to 6.45 billion baht, increasing by 727 million baht or 12.71% from December, said Janpen Sonsomsuk, Sa Kaeo commercial chief.
Important Thai exports there included motorcyle engines and parts, automobiles, tractors, diesel engines, rice threshing machines, hand tractors, non-carbonated beverages and cement.
Important Thai imports included cassava, aluminium parts of motors, gas tanks, dog feed, and copper and aluminium scrap.
Thai export value dropped by 3.34% while imports surged by 89.48% due mainly to orders for cassava. Trade at the local Rong Kluea border market was normal and the value there rose slightly, Ms Janpen said.
