Singapore retail sales up 2.6% in April

SINGAPORE – Retail sales in Singapore rose 2.6 per cent in April from a year earlier, continuing its upward movement for the second month in a row after 2 per cent rise in March, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Monday (June 12).

On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 1.6 per cent in April.

Total sales, excluding motor vehicles, rose 4.9 per cent from a year earlier and 4.4 per cent since March.

A healthy rise was seen in sales in department stores, supermarkets, petrol service stations, medical goods and computer and telecommunications equipment, with an upward tick in both yearly and monthly figures.

Motor vehicle sales suffered the biggest slide, falling 9.4 per cent from March and 6.4 per cent from a year earlier.
