Myanmar: Govt Offers Free Electricity Bill for Four Months

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced that it will provide free 150 units of electricity from August 1 to December 31. The ministry said that it is to encourage people who are facing difficulties both economically and morally. The country’s 2020 election is set to hold in November.

People will get free electricity of 150 units including service fees. If a user uses more than 150 units, the ministry will deduct K11,550, which is equivalent to 150 units, from the electricity bill.

The Ministry of Health and Sports has relaxed its restriction on public gatherings by allowing up to 30 people to gather starting from August 16 as Yangon, the most important commercial city in Myanmar, has not reported any new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases for other three months.

In addition to that, the National Committee for the Prevention, Control, and Treatment of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has also extended all the measures, which are scheduled to end on August 15, to August 31.
