Laos: Govt awards Cambodian Ambassador for efforts to deepen cooperation

The Lao government has awarded a Friendship Medal to the outgoing Cambodian Ambassador to Laos, Mr Hos Sereythonh, to congratulate his successful mission and his achievements in enhancing relations and cooperation between Laos and Cambodia.

The medal was presented on Friday by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith on behalf of the Lao government.

On the occasion of medal awarding ceremony, outgoing Ambassador Hos Sereythonh expressed his thanks to the Lao government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the comprehensive cooperation, kind assistance and convenience he was afforded during his 3-year diplomatic mission in Laos.

During his three year mission to Laos, Ambassador Hos Sereythonh has promoted strengthened relations and deepened the longstanding traditional friendship and solidarity between the Lao and Cambodian peoples.

He also played an important role in contribution to the activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries last year.

Since Laos and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on June 15, 1956, cooperation has been developed considerably while the people-to-people exchanges have also been promoted, while exchange visits by high ranking government officials of both countries was also continued.

To strengthen friendship and cooperation, the two countries also opened consulates in their respective countries, with the Lao consulate located in Stung Treng province of Cambodia while the Cambodian consulate opened in Champassak province of Laos last year.

Early this year, the two countries also opened a new international border checkpoint which links the Nong Nokkheane area in Khong district of Champassak province and the Trapeang Kriel area in Cambodia’s Stung Treng province.

The opening ceremony of the new international border checkpoint was also attended by Lao Prime Minister, Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, along with high ranking government officials.
