Indonesia: Trade Minister Says Staple Food Prices Stable
TEMPO.CO, Bandung – Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that staple food prices in traditionalmarkets are stable after Eid al-Fitr.
After inspecting several markets, he said that food prices are rising due to trade activities in the markets that have not returned to normal.
Nevertheless, he added that the increase still stands at a tolerable level and is caused by reasonable factors.
“There is a slight increase because only one or two vendors are open, but it’s far from the unusual condition as in previous years. One, two and three days after Eid al-Fitr when vendors are not open yet, prices usually rise significantly but apparently not this year,” he added.
The Trade Minister said that staple food prices are stable since vendors have realized that they should not take advantage of rising the prices after Eid, among others.
In addition, he applauded the contribution of the task force on food price control because staplefood prices did not increase significantly during Eid holidays as in previous years.
“All are under control and mothers can smile as they are not being burdened by unnecessary expenses,” the Trade Minister said.
