Indonesia: Online Shopping Day targets Rp 7t in deals, to promote local products
Unlike in previous years, Indonesia’s National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas) will be held for two days, on Dec. 11-12, one day of which will be dedicated to boosting the sales of local products.
Organizers have targeted to earn Rp 7 trillion (US$482 million) in transactions during the shopping campaign, five times higher than the daily online shopping transaction value.
“For the first time, Harbolnas will be held for two days with a special day for local products on Dec. 11,” said Harbolnas organizing committee chairman Indra Yonathan as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.
Indra said the promotion for local products, themed Shopping for the Nation, aimed to highlight the quality of local products.
“We encourage the sales of local brands to send a message to customers that they also need to support and pay attention to local products,” Indra said, adding that the sales of local products were expected to reach Rp 1 trillion, at least.
He added that organizers expected to see 1 million new online shoppers during the event, after learning from a 2017 survey that two out of 10 customers during Harbolnas were first-time online shoppers.
Some 300 e-commerce platforms will take parts in the event, featuring products from a range of categories, including electronics, fashion, cosmetics, food and beverages, groceries, travel, furniture, services and automotive.
State-owned lender Bank Mandiri Group vice president of credit cards M Haris Budiman said the lender would offer a promotional discount of up to 93 percent during the event. (bbn)
