Indonesia: Latest Economic Policy Package to be Announced before August 17
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government will announce the latest economic policy package before August 17, said the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution.
“Therefore, in two weeks’ time, the government will issue a major deregulation package that would substantially change investment permit process. [An announcement will be made] before August 17,” Darmin said in Jakarta today, August 1.
According to Darmin, the policy package will simplify permit process. Basically, he expects state ministries, agencies, and local administrations to assume responsibility for investment permit processes in their respective office.
“Investors used to apply a lot [of permits] by themselves with the central and local [government]. Going forward, he will form task forces at ministries, agencies and local administrations in charge of monitoring and receiving applications for business permits in their respective office,” Darmin said.
Earlier in July, at a coordinated meeting on an accelerated investment realization, the government proposed the idea of the establishment of investment task forces comprising the national task force, sector task force and local task force.
Darmin explained that permit processes with ministries, agencies and local governments will be carried out by the task forces. Investment realization and execution will become a joint responsibility. The plan will be implemented through a presidential regulation.
