Indonesia: Govt to Improve Beef Trade System

TEMPO.COJakarta – Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that beef trade system will be improved to cut the price. “We will assess everything starting from the slaughter house (RPH), we will regulate everything,” he said in Bandung on Wednesday (28/6).

He explained that one of the measures taken is by supplying the market with imported frozen beef. “We will supply the frozen meat, it will make the price stable.”

Enggartiasto admitted that imported frozen beef meat has been rejected in a number of markets. “There are some markets that reject the meat, but we will penetrate this system. Market mechanism process will be established. We have to make this work,” he said.

He convinced that there is a possibility to increase the volume of imported frozen beef meat. “We have to supply more,” he said. In terms of the exact volume, it depends on the needs of National Logistics Agency (Bulog) as the supplier. “We respond to the needs. There are still 45 thousand tons of frozen meat from India. If Bulog needs it, we will provide it.”
