Indonesia: Govt Discusses Infrastructure Projects with 4 Countries

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi held bilateral meetings with delegates of four countries: South Korea, Singapore, Hungary, and China, as well as the European Union (EU) to discuss infrastructure projects in Indonesia.

The meetings were held on sidelines of The 4th Asia Europe Meeting Transport Minister Meeting (ASEM TMM) in Denpasar, Bali, on September 26-28.

“I discussed infrastructure projects and they responded well. With South Korea, we discussed a potential investment in airport operations,” Budi said in Denpasar today, Sept. 28.

Moreover, he elaborated that he held talks with Singapore delegates over support for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as well as other potential cooperation on increased capacity.

“With China, we mainly discussed projects, particularly those in North Sumatra, namely in Kualanamu and Kuala Tanjung. I also said to China delegates to accelerate the bullet-train project,” he said.

The Minister also discussed cooperation in education with Hungary. “Hungary also handed a proposal to develop railway, aviation and bus manufacturing. As for the EU, we discussed improve flight [route] functions from Indonesia to Europe,” he noted.

Moreover, Budi said he is pleased that Indonesia’s infrastructure projects pitched at the ASEM TMM were appreciated and supported by the member states.

The Transportation Minister said he will be holding one-on-one meetings with private firms of the countries to follow up on the discussion during the bilateral meetings.
