Indonesia: Google Pays Tax, Sri Mulyani Hopes Other Institutions Will Follow
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Directorate General of Taxes stated that Google has paid off its 2015 tax liability. Responding to the news, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that she highly appreciated that the deal between tax DG and Google had gone well.
“Firstly, I truly appreciate that a deal has been made between the Tax DG and Google,” said Sri Mulyani on Friday, December 1.
She recalled the lengthy tax collection process despite the ministry’s and Tax DG’s numerous negotiations. Sri Mulyani further said that it is a positive start and she hopes that other institutions will take this case as an example regarding future tax collections.
“By reaching a settlement, it would at least give us a first step and a reference that can be emulated by other institutions,” the minister continued.
Sri Mulyani hopes that this would provide a tax-related assurance for the future and that Google will continue to show compliance with further tax collections.
