Indonesia: Consuming Local Products Strengthens the Economy, Says Sri Mulyani
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati in her acceptance speech at the Lagawi Festival on Thursday said small and medium industries have become one of Indonesia’s economic backbone. She mentioned that the higher the consumption of local products, the stronger it will be for Indonesia’s economy.
“The higher the local product consumption, it will strengthen our economy and recover us from the pandemic that hit us,” said Minister Mulyani on June 23.
She noted that in 2021, 4.4 million units of small and medium industries will absorb 15.64 million workers and have contributed to the non-oil and gas national economic growth of 21.22 percent.
Mulyani advised small and medium-sized industries in the country, especially in Lampung, to continue innovating and champion creativity in developing products that can better represent Indonesian culture and customs.
The Finance Minister also hopes that all SMEs will continue to improve the quality of their products, to compete with foreign-made products, both in terms of quality and price, and of course they can enter the world trade supply chain.
