Indonesia – Breaking News: Lombok Airport Closed Again, 47 Flights Canceled

TEMPO.COJakarta – As expected before, flights in and out Lombok Airport was canceled yesterday. Air Transport Directorate-General issued a Notice to Airman (NOTAM) to close the airport operations due to Mount Agung volcanic ash in Bali from 7:50 pm yesterday until 6 am this morning.

Lombok International Airport (LIA) was closed following a coordinated meeting with airport authorities, airlines, ground handling, state-owned AirNav Indonesia and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) yesterday at 7:50 since a field observation in the form of paper test to find out the state of volcanic ash was canceled due to rainy condition.

“The number of flights affected by Lombok International Airport closure is 47 in and out Lombok comprising: 24 flight arrivals and 23 flight departures,” state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I Corporate Secretary Israwadi said in a written statement received by Tempo on November 27.

Lombok Airport Meteorology Station head Oral Sem Wilar explained that the airport was closed last night due to the lack of a device to detect ash at night. “It is safer to cancel night flights,” he said.
