Indonesia: BPS records 0.27 percent inflation in November
Inflation was 0.27 percent in November, slightly lower than the 0.28 percent recorded in October and contrary to the trend in the last two years, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Monday.
Meanwhile, the year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate was 3.23 percent. The latest figure brings year-to-date (ytd) inflation to 2.5 percent.
BPS head Suhariyanto said that the inflation rate in November was good, as it was lower than the inflation rate in October. This was in contrast to the yearend trend for inflation rates in the last two years, which saw slightly higher inflation in November than in October.
“If we look at previous years, [inflation in] November was usually higher, as it is closer to the end of the year,” said Suhariyanto. “But this did not occur [this year]. It means that prices were more controllable, although it is closer to the end of the year.”
Inflation in November 2017 was 0.2 percent, up slightly from 0.1 percent in October 2017, while inflation in 2016 also rose to 0.47 percent in Novemberfrom 0.14 percent in October.
Prices increased in November for airline fares, gasoline and mobile phone credit, leading to 0.56 percent inflation in transportation, communications and financial services.
Food inflation in November was 0.27 percent, with price increases observed in shallots, rice, eggs, tomatoes and carrots.
Meanwhile, prices decreased for red chili, poultry (chicken) and melon. (bbn)
