Guangdong’s Zhanjiang port halts Cambodian frozen seafood imports

A shipping port in southern China has temporarily halted the import of frozen seafood from Cambodia due to the port’s recently reduced capacity because of newly implemented Covid-19 prevention measures.

Zhanjiang, the port located in southern Guandong province, will also stop importing frozen seafood from Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Newpal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Mongolia, according to Seafood Source, an international publication covering the seafood industry.

The import ban on frozen seafood will last from June 20 to July 15.

Guangdong was hit with a Covid-19 outbreak last month, as the Delta variant of the virus infected 151 people, mostly in Guangzhou. The Global Times reported that as of Thursday, there had been less than five cases per day recorded for five days in a row, signaling a potential end to the latest wave.

The Ministry of Health announced the presence of the Delta variant in Cambodia earlier this month after three returning migrant workers from Thailand tested positive.
