Vietnam: Farmers stuck with tra fish as price sinks lower
Friday, 5 August 2016 – The price of tra fish in the C?u Long (Mekong) Delta has continued to fall, leaving large inventories of fish and causing losses for farmers.
Nguy?n Ng?c H?i, chairman of Th?i An Tra Fish Co-operative in C?n Th? City, said the price for fish meeting export criteria (0.7-0.9 kilo a fish) was VN?18,500-19,000 a kilo, down VN?1,500-2,000 compared to a fortnight ago.
At that price, farmers have suffered a loss of VN?500-1,000 a kilo.
Tr?n Th? Lan in C?n Th? City said her family had sold 100 tonnes of tra fish and lost VN?100 million (US$4,500).
“Tra fish processing plants haven’t bought my fish, so every day I had to sell a few tonnes to traders for VN?16,000-17,000 a kilo,” she said. Read More?
