MONDAY, 20 JUNE 2016 – A busy informal jewel market in Sagaing Region wants the government to recognise it ? so it can pay taxes. The Bawgar jewel market, in Sagaing township, also wants to set up shop in fixed premises, amid complaints that crowds of merchants engaged in the jewel trade block the streets.U Kan Thaung, deputy chair of Sagaing Gem and Jewellery Entrepreneurs’ Essociation, said, “The traders don’t need to pay tax because the market is not legal. I want to open the market on proper premises, with government recognition,” he said.
