Laos Exports 3 Million Tons of Agricultural Products in First Quarter of 2023
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Laos has exported over three million tons of agricultural products in the first three months of 2023.
Bounchan Kombounsalued, Director of the Plantation Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, informed the public that the Ministry was able to export 3,032,517 tons of agricultural products, until March this year.
The revenue gained from the exports in the first quarter reached USD 507,644,615, equivalent to 56.4% of the projected revenue of USD 900 million for 2023.
The ministry was able to collect USD 19 million more in revenue, compared to the same period last year, reports Pathedlao.
The main agricultural exports were 1,936,309 tons of cassava (in raw, dry, and flour form), 230,987 tons of sugarcane, 269,979 tons of bananas, 86,420 tons of watermelons, and 49,235 tons of corn.
China, Vietnam, and Thailand were the three top countries that imported these agricultural products.
The demand for cassava has seen it become the most profitable agricultural product in Laos, as demonstrated by the country’s February trade figures where cassava was the leading export item, with revenue figures totaling USD 85 million.
