Indonesia’s December Trade Surplus Narrowed
Indonesia’s trade surplus narrowed in December as exports declined from the previous month.
The country recorded a trade surplus of $3.89 billion, narrowing from $5.16 billion in November.
Analysts polled by The Wall Street Journal expected a $4.01 billion surplus.
For the full year, Southeast Asia’s largest economy reported a trade surplus of $54.46 billion.
Indonesia recorded trade surpluses with the U.S., India and the Philippines, the country’s chief statistician, Margo Yuwono, said Monday.
The country’s exports fell 1.1% from the previous month to $23.83 billion, as non-oil and gas exports declined in December.
Compared with a year earlier, the country’s exports were 6.6% higher.
In December, Indonesia’s imports rose 5.2% from the previous month to $19.94 billion, mostly due to higher inbound shipments of mechanical and electric parts.
Indonesia’s imports fell 6.6% from the previous year, the statistics agency said.
