The meeting was chaired by Transport Minister Sun Chanthol and GDT’s director general Kong Vibol.
Transferring vehicle ownership is an important issue because the government wants vehicle owners to formally register, said ministry spokesman Vasim Sorya.
“We want to encourage owners to register their vehicles by transferring their names, but there are many complicated procedures that need to be discussed,” Mr Sorya said.
Vehicle ownership transfers are taxed 4 percent of total assets, Mr Sorya said.
“Our goal is to ensure the tax is paid when transferring the vehicles,” he said.
The discussion is mainly focusing on transfers using the digital platform, which Mr Sorya said facilitates the process and helps reduce costs.
The National Online Automation System for Vehicle Registration was launched in January 2017, together with a number of apps for mobile devices that seek to improve the transportation sector, including Driver’s License Registration and Test, Technical Vehicle Inspection Registration, and Cambodia Driving Rules.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation reported previously that its new online vehicle registration system has been a success, with more than 500,000 vehicles registered since its launch.
