Cambodia is Thailand’s main food export market

Cambodia is Thailand’s main food export market as compelled  well-known Thai retailers such as 7-Eleven and Big C to expand their branches in Cambodia.

According to the Bangkok Post on September 29, the main export markets related to food for Thailand are the United States, Japan, Cambodia and China. The country’s food exports are expected to grow 3-5% this year from 1.09 trillion baht last year.

Visit Limlurcha, president of the Thai Food Processors Association, said Thai food exports still face risk factors, including the spread of epidemics and mutations in many countries. In addition, high freight rates, shortages of containers and shipping facilities, rising packaging costs, especially in relation to steel and labor shortages.

In 2020, Thailand’s food exports will fall 1 percent from a record 1.10 trillion baht in 2019, down 5 percent from a year earlier, he said. In the first eight months of this year, Thai food exports rose 8% year on year to 806.4 billion baht.
