Cambodia: Final warning on non-taxed imports
The General Department of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Economy and Finance has given a final notice to non-taxed vehicles and goods owners to declare their ownership of Sept 28, according to an announcement from the customs and excise.
Those goods were confiscated and kept in temporary storage or customs-bonded warehouses. The non-taxed vehicles and goods owners have to declare and pay taxes within 60 days.
They said so far the customs and excise has noticed some owners are reluctant to fulfil their obligation. However, since the deadline will soon arrive, the customs and excise administration has called on the relevant owners of the non-taxed vehicles and goods to hurry and fulfil their tax obligations.
“In case they miss the deadline, vehicles and goods will be considered as unclaimed goods and the customs and excise administration will put the those unclaimed goods for public bidding or auction sales and collect the income for the national budget,” the statement read.
Customer service officer at the Customs and Excise Department, who asked not to be named, said some goods were confiscated from 2015 until April 30, 2020, and were stored in temporary storage or customs-bonded warehouses. He said that most of the unclaimed goods are mixed, such as cars, electronic items and daily commodities.
“Some goods are imported through the land border and corridors. We do not know the total value of the unclaimed goods, but during the public’s bidding process, we will use the customs’ imported tax price base for the bidding,” he added. “Most of the goods are vehicles, electronics, daily products, and food and beverages,” he added.
