Brunei: Trade balance recorded at BND147.6M in August 2017
TOTAL trade increased by 24.9 per cent year-on-year to BND1,010.6 million; consisting exports (BND579.1 million) and imports (BND431.5 million), compared to BND809.1 million in August 2016. Trade balance decreased by 14.7 per cent year-on-year to BND147.6 million from BND173.1 million in August 2016.

Exports for August 2017 increased by 17.9 per cent year-on-year from BND491.1 million (August 2016) to BND579.1 million (August 2017). Exports of Mineral Fuels recorded the highest contribution of 90.4 per cent of total exports, comprising Crude Oil (BND249.1 million) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at BND271.8 million.
In August 2017, imports of goods increased by 35.7 per cent year-on-year from BND318.0 million (August 2016) to BND431.5 million. Meanwhile, the top five contributions of imports by commodity were Manufactured Goods (36.9 per cent), Machinery and Transport Equipment (27.2 per cent), Mineral Fuels (11.0 per cent), Food (10.5 per cent) and Chemicals (6.5 per cent).

The highest exports market was to Japan with 31.2 per cent of total exports, followed by Malaysia (15.2 per cent), Australia (10.9 per cent), China (8.4 per cent) and others.

By End Use Category, Imports of Intermediate Goods comprises 58.8 per cent of the total imports.
This was followed by imports of Capital Goods (33.7 per cent) and Consumption Goods (7.5 per cent).
The highest imports came from China with 31.5 per cent of total imports, followed by Singapore (17.8 per cent), Malaysia (14.3 per cent), USA (6.2 per cent) and others.
