Brunei, Laos ink business agreements to further ties
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua) – A series of business and education agreements were signed between Brunei and Laos to strengthen bilateral relations during the two-day visit of Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith to the sultanate.
The Lao prime minister and his delegation of 60 were in the sultanate during the weekend upon the invitation of Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
“Your visit is timely as we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of our relations, we continue to enjoy exchanges of visit at all levels. These exchanges will further enhance the much valued existing ties among us,” the Brunei monarch told the Lao premier in a meeting.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in information sharing was signed between the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brunei and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The MoU, signed on Saturday during a business networking session between members of the business communities of both countries, serves to facilitate information sharing and explore potential collaboration in agriculture, energy, petroleum, tourism and industries.
An MoU that paves the way for academic exchanges between Brunei and Laos, was also signed and witnessed by the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Thongloun.
Brunei and Laos established diplomatic relations in 1993. Since then both countries have cooperated extensively in various fields such as education, technical assistance, and culture, youth and sports.
