Cambodia sees more than 130,000 tourists in the country on first day of Water Festival

As restrictions lessen and the country gears up to reopen the tourism sector, droves of tourists went out and about to celebrate the festivities of the Water Festival.

The Ministry of Tourism reported that a total of 132,013 tourists travelled across Cambodia on the first day of the Water Festival, November 18. 132,002 of the recorded were national tourists and 2,001 were domestic foreign tourists.

According the report of the Ministry of Tourism, the coastal regions were the most visited destinations. Preah Sihanouk recorded the greatest number of tourists with 18,073 visitors, while Kampot and Kep were the 2nd and 4th with 15,840 and 12,880 tourists, respectively.

Siem Reap came in 3rd, Mondulkiri was 5th, and Pursat ranked 6th.

The ministry is expecting that more tourists will be recorded on the remaining days of the Water Festival.

Despite the postponement of the traditional boat racing, similar to the previous year, the government still allowed the normal three-day holiday. People in the country took to travelling around the country after the lifting of restrictions across the country. AKP-C.Nika
