Cambodia Post launches e-payment, money transfer app

In a bid to modernise its offer of services, Cambodia Post, the state agency responsible for providing postal service in the Kingdom, on Friday unveiled a new application that enables electronic payments for a range of services as well as money transfers.

Called ‘posTTransfer’, the new application allows users to perform domestic and international money transactions and pay online for a wide range of services, including utilities and school fees, according to Ork Bora, the director of Cambodia Post.

“With state-of-the-art security, the app ensures smooth monetary transactions. It a matter of seconds, the money sent will reach the receiver,” Mr Bora said, adding that the app will be free-of-charge during the first month of use.

The app also supports Cambodia Post’s existing services by, for example, allowing customers to pay parcel shipping fees online.

He said with the rapid evolution the information and communication technology (ICT) sector is undergoing, it is imperative that not only private companies, but also public institutions like Cambodia Post, keep up with technological advancements.

“Our goal is to modernise and adapt to current trends,” Mr Bora added.

“A lot of private companies are now offering money transfer services and digital payment solutions, but that does not mean that these services cannot also be provided by public institutions like us.

“The posTTransfer app is convenient, reliable, fast and cheap,” Mr Bora said. “Customers will be able to use it to pay taxes, utilities and school fees.”

According to Mr Bora, the app cost $2 million to develop and has already been downloaded by more than 20,000 users. “We have more than 100 agents and partnerships in more than 30 countries around the world for our money transfer services,” he said.

Sarak Khan, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, said Cambodia Post does not seek to compete with private firms that supply online payment and money transfer solutions like Wing, Smart Luy or Pi Pay.

“We encourage all companies to cooperate with public entities to provide transparent, safe and reasonably-priced services to enhance the experience of consumers both locally and internationally.”
