Cambodia: Nine investment projects to generate 14,000 jobs approved
The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has announced the approval of nine new investment projects creating a total of 13,849 job opportunities for the locals.
According to a CDC press release yesterday, the newly approved projects are worth $54.8 million. The projects are located in Kampong Speu, Takeo, Svay Rieng and Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital.
The new projects will consist of factories manufacturing kitchen utensils, light bulbs, bags, shoes, clothing, moulding and packaging paper and cardboard.
In addition, the CDC added, special economic zones (SEZs) in Svay Rieng province have attracted a bicycle and an e-bike factory project along with an electrical appliance manufacturing project.
Last week, the SEZ Board of the CDC gave the green light to six more investment projects with a total capital of $163.5 million in Phnom Penh and the provinces of Kratie, Svay Rieng and Preah Sihanouk.
The projects are expected to generate more than 3,000 new jobs and cover the manufacture of car tires, metal and plastic jewelry, fashion accessories, light bulbs, glue, paints, inks and other items. AKP
