Cambodia, Myanmar cooperation
Cambodia and Myanmar have agreed to further enhance trade between the two countries by encouraging investment from small and medium enterprises and exchanging agricultural products, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
“Trade between Cambodia and Myanmar can be strengthened through investments by SMEs,” stated a ministry press release on Wednesday at the conclusion of a two-day official visit to Myanmar by Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.
Myanmar’s exports are mostly food and agricultural commodities and according to the press release both Cambodia and Myanmar could enter into trade deals to exchange agricultural products.
Mr Sokhonn also asked Myanmar to speed up negotiations on an agreement to avoid double taxation of companies and also for it to examine a law on the promotion and protection of investments.
At least 30 Cambodian companies have invested in Myanmar, mostly in the services and investment banking sectors.
