Cambodia: Migrant workers boost national economy
While improving their livelihood, Cambodian migrant workers, including those in the Republic of Korea (RoK), have significantly contributed to boosting the national economy.
The note was highlighted by Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training while presiding over the celebration of Khmer New Year “Moha Sankrata” in Uijeongbu, RoK on April 16.
Cambodian workers have managed to send an average of $1,000 a month to their families and generate nearly $600 million annually towards the national income, emphasised Samheng.
The minister was positive that after completing their work mandate in S. Korea, Cambodian workers will get new skills, knowledge, resources and experience for their work back in Cambodia.
Cambodian workers are also a bridge to attract more direct investment from S. Korea through their honesty and hard work, he said.
Samheng underlined the effort of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in strengthening bilateral cooperation with the South Korean side to increase employment opportunities and provide vocational training for Cambodian migrant workers.
The two also worked to promote the protection of labour rights, ensure public services to the workers, and establish Khmer pagodas and cultural centres for the workers. AKP
