Cambodia: Kingdom’s exports to the United States continue to rise
Cambodia’s exports to the world’s largest economy increased in the first two months of this year.
Data from the US Census Bureau showed that, from January to February, Cambodia exported $1.12 billion of goods to the US, a 3.3 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
At the same time, Cambodia’s imports from the US also rose by 26 percent to $67 million.
The bilateral trade of the two countries reached $1.187 billion, inching up 4.4 percent.
Cambodia’s major exported products to the US are garments, footwear, travel products and bicycles, while its main imported products from the US are vehicles, animal feed and machinery.
Lim Heng, vice-president of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said the US is still a strong market for the Kingdom in spite of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Based on increasing exports from Cambodia to the US, it means that Cambodian-made products are in demand in the market there despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Heng said.
“Once exports increase, it shows that the production chains in the country are running and also that the import of raw materials is still taking place.”
Bilateral trade between the two countries last year reached an all-time high of $6.921 billion, a year-on-year increase of 17.8 percent.
Cambodia exported some $6.577 billion of goods to the US in 2020, up 22.8 percent over 2019’s figure.
