Cambodia: Indonesia asked to share vegetable oil experience

Cambodia has asked Indonesia to share experience on vegetable oil development as the first meeting on vegetable oil between the European Union and Asean is set to be held late in January this year.

Eang Sophalleth, secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment raised the issue when he received Indonesian ambassador Sudirman Haseng last Friday.

Last December, the EU and Asean launched a joint working group to address the challenge toward reaching Sustainable Development Goals in the vegetable oil sector, especially the importance of a holistic approach to the environment.

Sophalleth said that Cambodia would like to learn from Indonesia and Malaysia – the biggest countries in the world produce vegetable oil.

“The Ministry of Environment intends to listen to the talks in the first meeting between the EU and Asean member states on vegetable oil to gain knowledge and experience to apply for protecting the environment in Cambodia,” he said.

In Cambodia, Mong Reththy Investment Cambodia Oil Palm Co. Ltd owns the largest palm oil plantation of about 16,000 hectares in Preah Sihanouk province.
