Cambodia Angkor Air’s inaugural flight to Danang takes off

The long-anticipated direct flight service between Phnom Penh and Danang in central Vietnam has already started.

A Cambodia Angkor Air Airbus A-320 aircraft bearing 120 passengers took off from Phnom Penh International Airport past 2:00 pm yesterday for the inaugural flight and landed at Danang International Airport around 3:10 pm on the same day.

Among the passengers were several dignitaries, including Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA).

They were met at the Danang airport by Vietnamese tourism officials led by Nguyen Xuan Binh, deputy director of Danang Tourism Department, according to Vietnamese media reports.

The reports also mentioned that the passengers were given flowers and souvenirs upon disembarking from the plane and that a gala dinner to celebrate the occasion was later held at Novotel Danang Premier Han River.

The direct flight connection between Phnom Penh and Danang is expected to strengthen the ties between the two countries and boost tourism. Cambodia Angkor Air, the Kingdom’s flag carrier, will fly to Danang five times a week.

Ms Sivlin told VGP News that the new route promises to bring many economic benefits to both Cambodia and Vietnam.

“The direct flight from Cambodia to Danang, Vietnam, is a very good opportunity to attract tourists from neighboring areas to Cambodia and vice versa,” she pointed out

According to Ms Sivlin, before, if you wanted to go to Danang, you had to fly through Ho Chi Minh City.

“I hope the Cambodian people will have the opportunity to explore not only Danang but also the surrounding areas of Vietnam,” she added. Danang is one of Vietnam’s leading tourist destinations.

In the first seven months of this year, Cambodia received 470,000 visitors from Vietnam, which represents a 4.6 percent increase from the same period last year.
