Brunei: Trade Balance records BND203.3M in December 2016

FOR the month of December 2016 Brunei Darussalam’s Trade Balance was BND203.3 million. Total exports amounted to BND512.9 million, while imports were valued at BND309.6 million.

Mineral fuels recorded the highest contribution of 87.4 per cent of total exports, comprising Crude Oil (BND247.9 million) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) (BND200.3 million).

The highest exports market was Japan with 30.6 per cent of total exports, followed by Malaysia (11.3 per cent), China (11.1 per cent) and Republic of Korea (9.7 per cent).

In December 2016, imports of goods increased by 6.9 per cent from BND289.6 million (November 2016) to BND309.6 million.

Meanwhile, the top contributions of imports by commodity were Machinery and Transport Equipment (32.3 per cent), Manufactured Goods (16.7 per cent), Food (16.4 per cent), Mineral Fuels (12.3 per cent) and Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles (10.8 per cent).

Imports of Intermediate Goods accounted for 61.6 per cent of the total imports. This was followed by imports of Capital Goods and Consumption Goods, with 29.0 per cent and 9.5 per cent respectively.

The highest imports came from Singapore with 21.2 per cent of total imports, followed by Malaysia (20.9 per cent), China (14.5 per cent) and USA (12.6 per cent).

For the whole year 2016 (January to December), Brunei Darussalam’s Trade Balance was BND3,046.7 million. Total exports amounted to BND6,735.6 million, while imports were valued at BND3,688.9 million
