Brunei: Trade balance recorded BND369.1M in January

FOR the month of January 2017 Brunei Darussalam’s Trade Balance was BND369.1 million. Total exports amounted to BND694.9 million, while imports were valued at BND325.8 million.

Mineral fuels recorded the highest contribution of 92.7 per cent of total exports, comprising crude oil (BND309.7 million) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) (BND334.8 million).

According to a press release, the highest exports market was Japan with 31.2 per cent of total exports, followed by Republic of Korea (21.6 per cent), India (20.4 per cent) and Thailand (11.0 per cent).

In January 2017, imports of goods increased by 5.2 per cent from BND309.6 million (December 2016) to BND325.8 million. Meanwhile, the top contributions of imports by commodity were machinery and transport equipment (38.1 per cent), food (16.8 per cent), manufactured goods (16.5 per cent), mineral fuels (10.1 per cent) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (8.1 per cent).

Imports of intermediate goods accounted for 60.6 per cent of the total imports. This was followed by imports of capital goods and consumption goods, with 30.4 per cent and 9.0 per cent respectively.

The highest imports came from Malaysia with 17.7 per cent of total imports, followed by Singapore (17.0 per cent), China (14.5 per cent) and United Kingdom (12.6 per cent).
