Brunei: Total trade sees 33pc increase in January
BRUNEI Darussalam’s total trade in January 2019 increased by 33.3 per cent to BND1,436.7 million compared to January 2018.
Total exports increased year on year by 27 per cent to BND952.6 million (January 2019) from BND749.8 million (January 2018). This was mainly attributed to the increase in the exports of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 13.3 per cent and 34.0 per cent respectively.
Total imports increased by 47.5 per cent to BND484.1 million. The five main import commodities were machinery and transport equipment (34.8 per cent), followed by manufactured goods (22.8 per cent), chemicals (15.1 per cent), food (10.8 per cent) and mineral fuels (7.4 per cent).
By end use category, imports of intermediate goods comprised 57.5 per cent of the total imports followed by imports of capital goods (35.3 per cent) and consumption goods (7.2 per cent).
The main export market for Brunei Darussalam in January 2019 was Japan (46.3 per cent) followed by Australia (16.1 per cent) and India (10.5 per cent).
For imports by trading partners, the highest share was from People’s Republic of China (32.3 per cent), followed by Singapore (20.1 per cent) and Malaysia (15.6 per cent).
