Brunei: Budget Allocation for the Ministry Of Development

A budget allocation of $203,400,000 for the Ministry of Development for financial year 2017-2018 has been approved during the Legislative Council meeting which entered its 7th day, which also saw the approval of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ budget. Earlier, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, the Minister of Development in his opening remarks highlighted several priorities of the ministry’s budget focus.

Yang Berhormat explained that first is friendliness towards customers comprising the public and the business community. Second is the generation of revenue from services provided and related activities. Third, Yang Berhormat added, is the improvement of cash flow management including revenue collection and reducing arrears. Fourth is improving the efficiency of cost management with an emphasis on procurement process according to priority that is more cost effective and value for money, as well as through the implementation of organisational streamlining and consolidation. Fifth is consideration for private sector involvement through the Public-Private Partnership, P-P-P method in the implementation of projects and services. And finally, consideration on the privatisation or corporatisation suitability of a part of the Ministry and Departments’ services.
