Bank Indonesia Governor: Digital Economy Is A Savior from Pandemic
TEMPO.CO, Nusa Dua – Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the digital economy has become the savior of the country’s economy during the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.
“In the future, the digital economy will also be a pillar for Indonesia’s advance,” said Perry at the opening of the 2022 Indonesian Digital Economy Festival (FEKDI) in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday, July 11, 2022.
Thus, the central bank and the government are focused on developing and strengthening this sector. “There needs to be a synergy between Bank Indonesia, ministries and institutions, banks, and the business world,” Perry added.
The synergy was then inaugurated in the national movement of the digital economy and finance during the opening of FEKDI. Perry said the movement is an effort to maintain the momentum of the digital economy’s growth.
The 2022 FEKDI was held in conjunction with the side event of the Indonesian G20 Presidency. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said one of the targets in this national synergy movement is to reach the financial inclusion level above 90 percent by 2024.
“The digital economy is one of the strategies in an effort to reform the structural economy of Indonesia which must be kept going,” said Airlangga in his remarks.
Airlangga explained that the digital economy sector grew rapidly throughout 2021 with the value of digital trade reaching Rp401 trillion. This year, the figure hit above Rp500 trillion. “In 2030, Indonesia’s digital trade value has the potential to increase up to 8 times.”
