Asean online sale set for August

THE Department of Trade and Industry is calling on Philippine micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to take part in the largest online sale event in Southeast Asia, the Asean Online Sale Day, as various e-commerce platforms and businesses across the region are expected part in it from August 8 to 10, 2022.

Asean is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The Asean Online Sale Day is a yearly event aimed at promoting cross-border e-commerce among Asean countries, improve consumer trust in e-commerce, provide continuous sales opportunities for the participating businesses, strengthen partnerships between stakeholders and businesses, and raise awareness on the Asean identity and solidarity.

“Philippine MSMEs should take advantage of the opportunities from the rapid growth of e-commerce in Asean to market and sell their products through expanded channels and contribute in accelerating the country’s exports,” said Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual.

The Asean Online Sale Day will be participated by all the of the bloc’s member states, namely BruneiCambodiaIndonesiaLaosMalaysiaMyanmarSingaporeThailandVietnam and the Philippines.

Asean e-commerce is anticipated to triple in size from $100 billion to $300 billion by 2025, and continue to grow as more customers and companies go online.

Notably, the region is home to more than 600 million consumers that are increasingly adapting to e-commerce due to the pandemic.

Deadline of application for Philippine-based business, MSMEs or marketplaces selling goods or services online is until July 20, 2022.
