Indonesia’s Trade Surplus Narrowed Slightly in January
Indonesia’s trade surplus narrowed in January as prices of key commodity exports including coal and natural gas declined during the month.
The country recorded a trade surplus of $3.87 billion, narrowing slightly from $3.89 billion a month ago.
Analysts polled by The Wall Street Journal tipped for a $3.27 billion surplus.
Indonesia recorded trade surpluses with the U.S., the Philippines and India, the country’s deputy for production statistics M. Habibullah said Wednesday.
In January, exports fell 6.4% from the previous month to $22.31 billion, mostly due to lower exports of mining and processing goods.
Compared with a year earlier, the country’s exports were 16% higher in January.
Indonesia’s imports fell 7.15% from a month ago to $18.44 billion, mostly due to lower imports of consumer goods.
The country’s imports rose 1.3% from a year ago, the statistics agency said.
