Laos, Vietnam cooperate on construction materials
Researchers of Laos and Vietnam met to discuss the use of new technologies to improve construction of the country’s roads in the capital last week.
The new technology called ANTI-Blooming Additive (TS) improves the new roadways potentially affected by natural disaster, an official said.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Houmphanh Intharath attended the workshop on the reinforcement and hardening of Road Construction and Maintenance by Using New Material Technology ANTI-Blooming Additive (TS).
Addressing the meeting, he said that participants reported the progress of research on the benefit of the technology in Vietnam where use of the technology had found success.
He said the workshop had an important role play in the development of the capacity and knowledge of Lao researchers including scientific development.
Access to and capacity to handle technology is a challenge in Asean member countries and for Laos in particular, he said.
As yet Laos still does not have a plan to use the new technology because Laos lacks experts certified for such purposes to monitor during road construction in the country.
Deputy Director General Department of Technology and Innovation under the ministry, Ms Khamnhong Sichanthavong said during the workshop the Vietnam Company had submitted a proposal for a research technology project to request support from the Lao side towards a construction company in Laos adopting the use of new Material Technology ANTI-Blooming Additive (TS).
The workshop also served as an opportunity to strengthen and develop Vietnamese – Lao traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation as it relates to the sciences sector, he said.
According to the ministry over the past years, the cooperation in sciences and technology fields between the two countries has achieved many good results.
Vietnam has helped train and improve capacities for Laos’ Sciences and Technology Management employees from the central to local levels.
Measures include improving capacities of management systems of intellectual property (industrial property, copyrights and seedlings) and of standards, metrology and quality as well as investing in building laboratories for scientific management and research.
The workshop studied and proposed ideas based on the content of the Sciences and Technology Development Strategy as well as the draft Law on Sciences and Technology.
It also discussed cases of development models for sciences and technology advancement in manufacturing and business as undertaken in some localities.
