Cambodia: Ministry of Post urges telecom operators to implement the law on telecommunications
The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has reminded the Kingdom’s telecom operators to implement the law on telecommunications, according to Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC).
According to the announcement, the ministry notes that some telecom operators have yet to comply with the laws such as regulations and terms of the relevant licenses, the operation of telecommunication networks and services.
The Ministry, is urging telecom operators to self-declare and pay license fee (allocated revenue) of 2 percent as contribution to the global service obligation fund, 1 percent for capacity building and research and development fund, and other related revenue to the Ministry on time.
It has also immediately ordered an end to illegal competition among the industry and the provision of telecommunication services without quality or integrity by creating a variety of promotion packages that confuse users.
“All promotions or disconnection of the network of any telecommunications operator must be approved in advance by TRC,” the announcement read.
The ministry has urged operators to stop distributing Simcard without proper documents such as ID card that would streathen the national security.
The Ministry has warned that any telecom operator who did not follow this instruction will face legal action.
