Cambodia: Co-working space discount fees by up to half
Local co-working space, The Desk, reduced its leasing fees last month by up to 50 percent, as the company attempts to retain clients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kim Norith, Managing Partner at The Desk, told Khmer Times that although the business has been able to remain open, the pandemic has hurt client numbers because many members have chosen to work in private rooms or simply work from home.
“Because the space has remained open we have offered a discount of our leasing fee from 20 to 50 percent which took effect in April and will continue until the pandemic is over,” Norith said.
“We decided to implement the discount after we surveyed our members financial situation’s. For example how badly they have been affected and how many members are still operating their businesses from there determined the discounted amoun,” said Norith. “We chose to discount rather than charge the full fees because we do not want our clients to move out from the spaces,” Norith added.
Khmer Times recently reported that other local co-working businesses had the same client concerns with some of their members’ businesses halting operation and others working from home.
Norith does start to expect more members returning to the co-working space this month, as the pandemic starts to fade.
“We currently have more than 50 businesses registered with us. However, from March to May this year, we only had a few businesses working with us. Most of our members are technology, digital marketing, e-commerce, and consultants firms,” Norith said.
