Philippines: DOE mulls overhaul of outdated rules
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy (DOE) is putting more teeth in reviewing and repealing outdated issuances and laws to help improve ease of doing business in the country.
The agency issued a circular to review and revisit past and current issuances to identify burdensome and unnecessary law and rules.
DOE has created a technical working group that will conduct an inventory, review and assessment on all related laws, regulations and issuances.
The body will also draft and recommend policy options based on findings, as well as update the agency’s database system.
The policy options may include amendment, repeal, consolidation or retainment of laws, which is subject to consultations with major shareholders.
Any draft proposed repeal or amendment of laws shall be submitted by the DOE to Congress and shall be turned over to the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) in time for the 4th Repeal Day.
Launched by the National Competitiveness Council in March 2016, Project Repeal is a government-wide regulatory reform initiative to repeal outdated rules and reduce the cost of doing business.
