Indonesia: Producers call on government to implement B30 biodiesel policy

While the implementation of the 20 percent blended biodiesel ( B20 ) mandatory policy needs fine tuning, biodiesel producers want the government to increase biodiesel content in fuel to 30 percent early next year.

“If we want to save our foreign exchange further, we need to reduce diesel fuel imports by utilizing more fatty acid methyl esters [FAME].  We need to upgrade B20 to B30,” said PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia director MP Tumanggor in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by kontan.co.id.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Biodiesel Producers Association deputy chairman said if the government agreed to the implementation of a B30 policy, producers would be able to start adjusting production capacity.

Monthly B20 biodiesel production had reached 12 million kiloliters , Tumanggor said.

“If a better policy is feasible, why can’t we implement it so that we can further save our foreign exchange by reducing imports?” he said.

If the consumption of Solar diesel fuel reached 30 million kl annually, 30 percent of which could be replaced by diesel fuel if a B30 mandatory was implemented, he said, adding that with the policy, the government could save 9 million kl of fuel imports.

“Therefore, we want to propose the B30 mandatory policy. If possible, the policy could be implemented next April,” he added. (bbn)
