Thursday, July 21, 2016 – THE Raya festivities failed to perk up sales of local home decor shops, with the weak ringgit and slower economy spurring most customers to shop across the border instead. The Aidil Fitri month is usually peak season for retailers of home accessories as Bruneians usually buy new curtains, carpets and furniture to welcome guests for their open house. But retailers interviewed by The Brunei Times said sales fell by 30 per cent this year compared with the previous year’s Hari Raya as most locals would rather go to Miri to buy cheaper products. Cisca Arroyo, supervisor of Neo Metro Company at Jalan Batu Bersurat, said the economic slowdown brought by lower oil prices, has reduced furniture sales. Read More?
